I am a fan of classical music and one of my absolute favorite pieces is Vltava (Die Moldau) from Bedřich Smetana’s Ma Vlast. The river that inspired this piece runs through the Czech Republic and into Prague, where it serves many tourist-laden ferries and flows beneath the city’s historic bridges. As I strolled Prague’s Old Town on my first day in the city, it was only a matter of time before I stumbled onto the Vltava’s banks.

As soon as it was in sight, I sat on a bench by the river, pulled out my headphones and played the Smetana’s Vltava. I listened for the full duration of the song, enjoying the atmosphere of the place which inspired a man to compose so long ago. I then moved down to the water and started to film, deciding that I would put together a video and try and capture my experience for others… Oh, if only I had had my tripod.

The videos are a bit shaky and not of the greatest quality, but I do not claim to be a videographer. Not yet, at least. The film itself lasts only a few minutes, but the full song is present in case you would like to listen to it all. I would recommend it. Vltava is a truly beautiful piece.
